They split up at Lanzhou. Zeb, Meghan and Broker took the train to Beijing, while Bwana travelled alone, by bus.

‘We can’t risk traveling as a group,’ he insisted, to which Zeb didn’t have a counter. He’s right. Meg says Rong and Hsu’s phones are moving to JSLC. Which means they’ve been rescued. He’ll mount a search operation on us.

‘I’ll be fine,’ he said. ‘I booked a seat on a travel coach that’s for Western tourists.’ He showed them the ticket on his phone. ‘My comms will be on, and there are GPS tags on my clothing.’

‘Go,’ Beth ordered him. ‘Bear, Chloe and I will catch the next train. Rog—’

‘I’ll be on the same coach as Bwana.’

The muscled operative frowned at him. ‘You can’t—’

‘I’m coming with you, and don’t try to get friendly with me,’ Roger said scornfully. ‘We’re going as strangers on that bus.’
